This course is an introduction to adults with ADHD and their specific sexual experiences that differ from neurotypical humans. Attendees will learn how to identify sexual concerns related to ADHD, impacts on relationships, and sexual functioning.

Attendees will acquire an overview of best practices in terms of treatment and provided the opportunity to reflect on treating adults with ADHD and sexual concerns. Specific attention will be paid to the importance of developing accessible skills for clients to process sexual experiences that work for their neurodiversity.

Learning Objectives 

  • List 3 methods of screening for information processing issues that are seen by sex therapists and sex educators.
  • Describe 3 examples of key sexual interventions for penis or vulva owners with ADHD to access sexual pleasure in ways their brains function.
  • Explain 3 clinical considerations for sensory issues commonly attributed to adults with ADHD and how to address them when it comes to physical pleasure intensity.

Activity Schedule 

30 minutes of learning about information processing and how it relates to sex.

30 minutes of the ADHD diagnosis and information processing.

60 minutes of strategies of treatment of information processing issues within sexual functioning.

30 minutes of examples of differences between neurotypical clients and neurodiverse clients’ sexual concerns what they sound like and how to decode.

30 minutes of case conceptualization of different sexual issues of specific client needs and interventions.

Bio 

Erika Miley is a licensed mental and sexual health therapist. In addition to educating, she is the owner of the entirely online sex positive mental health group practice The Center for Mental and Sexual Health, host of the Sex Talk with Erika Miley podcast, and completing her dissertation researching ADHD, women, and their sexual functioning.
