Because of the highly sexualized nature of American culture asexuals are particularly at risk of being misunderstood when they self-identity to health professionals. It is not uncommon for asexual-identified people to feel invisible; quite often heteronormative culture is primed to be unaware of the existence of asexuality. Because asexuals can experience alienation and even be pathologized by well-intentioned health professionals, they face higher rates of anxiety and depression than the LGBTQIA community overall (Borgogna, McDermott, Aita, & Krindel 2018). This webinar aims to reduce that risk by disseminating awareness and insight.

Speaker Bio:
Jared Boot is a clinical psychology doctoral student and has provided psychotherapy services as an intern to individuals, families, and couples. Jared also provides cultural competency training for working with LGBTQIA+ clients.
