Sex Therapy for Bariatric, Eating, and Body Image Issues (2CE Hours)

Eating disorders and body image issues, are some of the deadliest mental health issues we treat as clinicians.  The etiology of these issues commonly begins during the onset of puberty.  In addition, eating issues are often comorbid with anxiety and the anxiety disorder family. Sexual functioning is often not addressed  at residential facilities or out-patient facilities. Many of the clinical patterns often seen that will be addressed in this workshop include:

-Detachment from their bodies

-Detachment from pleasure (not only sexual)

-Social (Dating, romantic, intimate relationship, and friendship) development stunting

-Significant contextual anxiety regarding sexuality

-No sexual functioning education while getting treatment

Learning objectives:

The learner will be able to explain how the sexual functioning of those who experience eating and body image issues is impacted.

The learner will describe how to use ACT and CFT to address sexual functioning in those with eating disorders or body image issues.
