SAR – On the Edge: Special Considerations for “Dangerous” Kinks and Fetishes

This SAR will explore Edge Kinks and Fetishes, including but not limited to knife play, humiliation play, race play, orifice stretching, and more. This will be a mix of lecture, panel, demonstration, and introspection. This class will live on the edge and expose participants to styles of play on the fringes of the kink scene.
Learning Objectives
Participants will
- Understand the purpose and structure of the SAR (Sexual Attitudes Reassessment) program
- Identify and define kink terms, roles, and objectives
- Distinguish four consent models used in kink
- Analyze how kink is pathologize in mental health spaces
- Develop an awareness of personal biases and assumptions and their potential impact on the therapeutic process
- Utilize small groups to center reflection and support
- Describe three common injuries or health complications related to kink activities
- Identify two elements of the Health Belief Model and their impact on altering kink injury risk
- Compare and contrast how countertransference can be helpful or harmful in therapy or medical care when engaging in clients about high risk kink activities.
- Summarize at least three of the psychological implications of injury that clinicians might consider when clients have been injured or had complications to kink play
- Explore the subjectiity of the term dangerous applied to kink settings
- Gain an awareness of personal biases and assumptions when evaluating media content and its potential impact on the therapeutic proces
- Develop knowledge and insight on the topics being discussed by the panelists
- Actively listen and engage with the panelists to enhance learning and understanding
