Course Description:

This course provides an in-depth guide to writing referral letters for gender-affirming medical care within an ethical, client-centered, and collaborative framework. Participants will explore the evolving role of the mental health provider, with emphasis on the WPATH Standards of Care (SOC), informed consent, diagnostic clarity, and effective communication with medical professionals. The training highlights how to write comprehensive referral letters that include psychosocial assessments, diagnostic impressions, and readiness for treatment, while upholding advocacy and reducing gatekeeping barriers.

Speaker Bio:

Arlene (Ari) Istar Lev, LCSW-R, CASAC II, CSTS, is a social worker, family therapist, educator, and activist who has been serving the LGBTQ+ community for over 30 years. She is the Founder and Clinical Director of Choices Counseling & Consulting and TIGRIS: The Training Institute for Gender, Relationships, Identity, and Sexuality in Albany, New York. She is a Credentialed Alcoholism Counselor and a Certified Sex Therapist (ASSECT).
