American media’s portrayal of black sexuality perpetuates ideas created during African enslavement. This workshop will discuss the creation of these anti-black sexual troupes, the implicit bias sexuality professionals may need to unpack working with these populations, and tools to create inclusive sex-positive spaces.

  • Define objectification and fetishization
  • Explain how anti-black sexual troupes were developed and how they are perpetuated today
  • List 2 tools to check their implicit bias and support clients of color
  • Demonstrate 2 tools to check their implicit bias and support clients of color
Speaker Bio:
Shanae “HonestlyNae” Adams, MA, LPCC, NCC, CIGT (pronouns she/they) serves her community in a variety of ways including therapist, educator, and sex-positive enthusiast. Her mission is sexuality normalization, explanation, and melanated representation. Her passion revolves around the liberation of embracing sexuality. She is known for her dynamic workshops, sex-positive mindset, and eliminating the “taboo” surrounding sex and sexuality.
