Description: In this workshop, participants will learn about various Paraphilias and unusual, consenting sexual behaviors.  We will discuss theories of the development of Paraphilias and treatment approaches.  During the workshop, a very explicit video of various sexual behaviors will be presented, as well as a taped interview with a client.  And, Bestiality and Zoophilia will be explored in more detail.

Learning Objectives:

  • List and describe 5 Paraphilias
  • Discuss the development of Paraphilias and treatment approaches.
  • Discuss how to decide which presenting problems should be referred out
  • Describe the difference between Bestiality and Zoophilia

Activity Schedule:

1 hr:         Introductions, definitions & treatment.

45 min:         Video excerpts on a variety of sexual behaviors (about 24 minutes) & discussion.

15 min:         Break.

1 hr:         Video “Hani’s Client” (about 40 minutes) & discussion.

1 hr:         Understanding Bestiality and Zoophilia

Speaker Bio:

Hani Miletski, Ph.D., M.S.W. (she, her), is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s degree in Social Work from the Catholic University of America, National School of Social Service, in Washington, DC. She holds a Doctoral degree in Human Sexuality from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, in San Francisco, California.

Hani is a Certified Sex Therapist (Diplomate) and Supervisor by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), and she has been listed in the Washingtonian as one of the top psychotherapists specializing in sexual issues.

Hani is the author of “Understanding Bestiality and Zoophilia,” “Mother-Son Incest: The Unthinkable Broken Taboo Persists,” and various professional articles and book chapters.

Hani has been training and supervising other therapists and professionals in the field of human sexuality since the mid-90s. She has lectured in national and international professional conferences, and she served on the AASECT Board of Directors for 11 years (2000 – 2011).

Hani came to the United-States from her native country, Israel, in 1987 at the age of 25. She worked at the Embassy of Israel in Washington, DC as the Assistant Senior Representative for the Defense Mission to the U.S. for the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) Program, and later as the Assistant Press Counselor, while going to school. Upon her graduation, in 1994, she was employed by The Fogel Foundation, Human Sexuality Institute, in Washington, DC as a Sex Therapist. Hani became their Training Consultant, and later the Human Sexuality Institute’s Director. In 2003, Hani left The Fogel Foundation in order to focus on her Private Practice in Bethesda, Maryland.
