This course is a primer to help mental health professionals understand the problematic aspects of sex and sexuality, including sexual violence, compulsivity, and sexual negativity and shaming.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss how to assess for problems related to sex, while maintaining a sex-positive mindset.
  • Describe ways clients can obtain containment over out-of-control sexual behaviors.
  • Explain the etiological underpinnings of sexual violence as well as 2 treatment approaches.
  • Discuss the systemic ideologies that perpetuate sexual violence and out-of-control behavior.

Speaker bio:

Dr. Kate Balestrieri is a Licensed Psychologist, Certified Sex Therapist, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, and PACT II trained Couples Therapist. She is the co-founder of Triune Therapy Group in Los Angeles, California and founder of Modern Intimacy, which focuses on mental health, relationships and sexuality.
