Unfortunately, as much as we learn about sexuality, most of us never get equipped with the business skills necessary to run our own practice. In addition, even when we read up on business or hire a business coach, they still canā€™t tackle the nuances that come with our limitations in the industry. In Part 1 of this class, weā€™ll be going over 8 various aspects of business. Weā€™ll discuss the following:

 

    • defining your business; what types of businesses there are and how to choose the business that is right for you
    • steps on actually how to form your business and what that takes; picking a name, industry, and forms that youā€™ll need to fill out
    • Systems that will help you to excel including, Self-Care, Financial, Administrative, Audience/Client, and Video/Media
    • Honing in your target audience, what makes you unique, nailing your elevator pitch, and formulating your mission, vision, and values
    • Creation of your website, including understanding popular web domains, picking a perfect template, the necessary webpages for your business, the importance of SEO, and how to bring in income & take payments
    • Channeling your clients, which includes figuring out what a funnel is, creating your lead magnet,how to get people to keep purchasing from you, and using referrals as a way to build your business
    • Marketing yourself; including content formulation, how to make a sexuality calendar, how to promote for your events, and how to get the most out of networking
    • Understanding Social Media; including how to market for your chosen channel (instagram, fb, x, tiktok, etc.), key words and phrases to keep and avoid, navigating the hashtag system, showing you what content gets seen and what content doesn’t, social media systems for ease

 

All of these things are foundational for your business, so make sure that you take each one of these aspects into consideration for the success of your business.

Speaker Bio:

Marla Renee Stewart, MA (she/her) is a certified sexologist, sexual strategist, intimacy/relationship/sex coach, educator, speaker, and author. She is the owner of Velvet Lips, a sexuality education company that focuses on people to help them integrate seduction, develop their communication abilities, and enhancing their sex skills. As a faculty member at Clayton State University, she teaches Sociology and Womenā€™s and Gender Studies. As the Co-Founder of the Sex Down South Conference, Marla aims to bring diverse groups together to learn and share their experiences in the essence of being authentic and fostering sexual liberation across communities.

 

She currently runs two programs; the MEE program for people who want to have better relationships with themselves and with their lovers and the Sexcessful Business Coaching program to help business owners in erotic industries move their businesses past six figures.

 

Marla has studied human sexuality for over 22 years, has educated over 20,000 people in over 15 years, given over 1000 workshops, and have served hundreds of clients in her private practice, all around the world. She has had her influence in the media, as well; she has written over 200 articles, featured in over 100 magazines and books, and has been on over 80 podcasts and independent television shows. She was featured on Netflixā€™s Trigger Warning with Killer Mike, VH1ā€™s Love & HipHop Atlanta, and has filmed as a sex expert for many more reality shows. In addition, she also sits on the Board for American Association of Somatic Sexology.

 

Her educational background is also robust. She received her BA in Psychology and minored in Human Sexuality/LGBT Studies from San Francisco State University. She gained her Masters Degree in Sociology with a concentration in Gender and Sexuality, while studying for Womenā€™s & Gender Studies certification at Georgia State University. She is currently in pursuit of her PhD in Clinical Sexology from the Modern Sex Therapy Institutes.

 

She co-wrote her first book, The Ultimate Guide to Seduction & Foreplay (2020) with Dr. Jessica Oā€™Reilly and wrote a chapter and co-edited An Intersectional Approach to Sex Therapy, released December 2021. She is now working on a book, Black Feminine Dominance (working title) that hopes to be released in 2024.
