This workshop will help practitioners learn to treat the two most common concerns that women bring to sex therapists: a) Difficulty orgasming with a partner; and 2) Diminished sexual desire.
With respect to issues with orgasm, the workshop will overview statistics on the large number of women who have difficulty reaching orgasm with partners and will outline the cultural and individual reasons for this concern. Accurate information on female pleasure and sexual anatomy will be provided. A detailed treatment program for treating women struggling with difficulty reaching orgasm will be presented.
With respect to issues with diminished sexual desire, this workshop will overview the statistics on the large number of women who report diminished sexual desire and will outline the most common reasons for this concern. Accurate information on women’s sexual response cycle will be provided. A detailed treatment program for treating women struggling with diminished sexual desire will be presented.
Four Learning Objectives for Part I (Orgasm Issues)
(1) List statistics related to the prevalence of female orgasm problems.
(2) Explain the individual and cultural causes of female orgasm problems.
(3) Demonstrate techniques to assist female clients struggling with orgasm problems.
(4) Explain 2 techniques to assist female clients struggling with orgasm problems in couples therapy.
Four Learning Objectives for Part II (Diminished Desire)
(1) List statistics related to the prevalence of women’s diminished desire.
(2) Explain the causes of women’s diminished desire.
(3) Demonstrate techniques to assist female clients struggling with diminished desire.
(4) Explain 2 techniques to assist female clients struggling with demiished desire in couples therapy.
Across both parts of the workshop, activities will include lecture with engaging videos and power-point slides, case discussions and presentations, audience discussions, and Q+As.
Presenter Bio
Laurie Mintz, Ph.D. is a Professor at the University of Florida, where she teaches Psychology of Human Sexuality to over 150 undergraduate students a year and supervises Counseling Psychology doctoral students. She is a licensed psychologist and has maintained a private practice for over 25 years. She writes a popular Psychology Today blog, is highly quoted in popular media, and has authored two books: A Tired Woman’s Guide to Passionate Sex (2009) & Becoming Cliterate: Why Orgasm Equality Matters–and How to Get It (2017). Both books have been proven effective with small randomized clinical trials, the results of which have been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
