Dr. Kristin Spooner (she/they) holds a Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) from Simmons University. She is an AASECT-certified Sex Therapist and Supervisor-in-Training, as well as the MAP SIG Co-Chair. Dr. Spooner is a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) in the state of Massachusetts.Her therapeutic approaches are deeply rooted in the principles of antiracism, social justice, and liberation from sexual stigma. Her areas of expertise include Sex Offender Treatment & Problematic Sexual Behaviors; MAP support; LGBTQ+ & Gender Affirming Treatment; Sexual Trauma; BDSM/Kink; Fetishes; Cross-Dressing; Monogamous and Non-Monogamous Relationships; Body Image; and Compulsive Sexual Behaviors/Pornography use.


Dr. Spooner is dedicated to helping individuals liberate themselves from shame and stigma surrounding their sexual preferences, identities, and orientations. She is a radical social worker who advocates for the rights of individuals and communities on both micro and macro levels.

 

Approach to Supervision:

 

Dr. Spooner values the importance of effective and high-quality supervision, understanding that it requires collaboration and the utilization of collective knowledge. When working with both clients and supervisees, Dr. Spooner practices from a trauma-informed, sex-positive, and pleasure-focused perspective. She employs various modalities, including narrative therapy, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and sex/psychoeducation, among others.
