Course Description:

The course, Assessment and Treatment of Couples Using the Relational Self-Awareness (RSA) Framework, gives clinicians an opportunity to learn the principles and practices of RSA which is an integrative approach to working with couples, guided by research and clinical wisdom. You will have an opportunity to understand why, given the complexity of the modern love landscape, an integrative approach to working with couples is needed. You will learn how to begin treatment with a new couple, including how to gather and integrate information about each partner, the relationship history, and the presenting concerns. You will learn how to share and refine your formulation with the couple. This course will conclude with guidance around identity development and resilience as a clinician.

 

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Define Relational Self-Awareness and how it is an integrative approach to assessing and treating couples.
  • Describe how to plan and execute the assessment of a couple informed by the principles of Relational Self-Awareness.
  • Explain how to map a Vulnerability Cycle (Sheinkman & Fishbane).
