AASECT Category: Sex Therapy, Section A and Section F
Course Description:
Pornography is a unique medium in that it is opposed in the United States by people of all political persuasions, albeit for different reasons. This has caused an avalanche of medical misinformation and disinformation, leading to frequent claims that pornography has “no” benefits and is entirely harmful. Science has documented that pornography is overwhelmingly positive (or neutral) for most who view it. This talk will review acute and longer term direct and indirect health benefits of pornography, the networks disseminating the false medical claims, and how to balance discussions with clients concerned about their pornography viewing habits.
