Transgender, Gender Nonconforming and Nonbinary Persons – adults ( 1 CE Hour )

$35.00

1 CE Hour

PresentedBy:J. Rose Cohen, LCSW

Recorded workshop available via video on demand

Description:

In addition to any client seeking mental health treatment, transgender clients have unique challenges including mental health distress caused by gender dysphoria, oppressive experiences of rejection and violence in a society unaccepting of them and traumas associated with family rejection and interfacing with healthcare systems. Transgender people therefore have high rates of mental health conditions yet seek care at lower rates due to lack of safety in receiving care. In order to receive certain gender confirming procedures, transgender people often have to seek the expertise and recommendation of a mental health professional. This course will look closely at this intersection through foundational information and case illustration.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the difference between mental health distressed caused by gender dysphoria and mental health symptoms independent of dysphoria and trans oppression
  • Describe how to address all needs for a person including supporting gender transition when indicated in the presence of mental health challenges
