Question: What if I cannot make it to a live weekend?

Answer: You have 18 months to choose from over six cities to attend live in person. We also offer webinar live attendance options from the privacy of your own home/office. PLUS, we professionally record each weekend, so you won’t have to miss our fabulous workshops!

Question: Can I take this program if I want to be an AASECT Certified Educator or Counselor?

Answer: Absolutely!

Question: How long is this full sex therapy certification program?

Answer: The full program can be completed in 12 months. Or, you can do it over a longer period, if needed. It’s YOUR CHOICE! AASECT does require that you are under supervision for a minimum of 18 months prior to submitting your application. Modern Sex Therapy Institutes’ requirements are 12 months.

Question: What if I don’t want to be certified? Can I still attend workshops?

Answer: Yes! Take as few, or as many workshops as you want, or need for AASECT CEs or Licensure renewal. Choose from over 100 archived workshops here (make hyperlink to online workshops).

AASECT CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Ninety (90) hours of Human Sexuality Core Knowledge (Modern Sex Therapy Institutes offers all of these CEs. See above).
  • Sixty (60) hours of training specific to Sex Therapy (Modern Sex Therapy Institutes offers all of these CEs. See above).
  • If you are not ready to begin the certification process, feel free to take courses you are interested in and you can use them later.
  • Ten (10) hours of Sexuality Attitude Reassessment (SAR) (Modern Sex Therapy Institutes offers this several times a year).
  • All candidates MUST be supervised by AASECT certified supervisors. Modern Sex Therapy Institutes has three Certified Supervisors to choose from.
  • Modern Sex Therapy Institutes is an approved organizational provider for AASECT, APA, and NBCC! Use your CEs for one, or all of these. Most states accept our CEs. Please check with Rachel (hyperlink to my email) if you have questions about your particular state.

Our program meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for AASECT, APA, and NBCC CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification or your licensure. Completion of this program does not ensure or guarantee AASECT certification. SNAPSHOT OF QUALIFICATIONS FOR AASECT CERTIFICATION

AASECT Certified Sex Therapist

Potential AASECT Certified Sex Therapists are mental health professionals, trained to provide in-depth psychotherapy, who have specialized in treating clients with sexual issues and concerns. They are either licensed, or in the absence of required licensure, they are certified, registered, or clinical members of a national psychotherapy organization. Sex therapists work with sexual concerns and, in addition, where appropriate, are prepared to provide comprehensive and intensive psychotherapy over an extended period of time in more complex cases. Minimum degree required is a Master’s degree. The sex therapy certification program is for all students that are currently enrolled in a mental health graduate program and mental health professionals who are licensed in their states or provinces to provide mental health care and have completed graduate school for clinical training in their professional area. Applicable professional degrees may include a PhD, MD, MSW, or MA, Masters in MFT. AASECT Certified Sexuality Educator

Potential AASECT Certified Sexuality Educators are typically leading workshops, teaching classes, or organizing and facilitating seminars. Sexuality educators may teach in the classroom at the elementary, secondary, and higher education levels. They may also provide education for groups of children, adolescents, or adults, training for professionals, and outreach and education in community-based, healthcare, corporate, and faith-based settings. Sexuality educators also may design and conduct workshops, courses, and seminars; contribute to the sexuality education literature; develop curriculum; plan and administer programs; deliver lectures; and provide one-on-one client education sessions. The minimum degree required is a Bachelor’s degree.

AASECT Certified Sexuality Counselor

Potential AASECT Certified Sexuality Counselors might be working in a clinical, medical, or healthcare setting, giving specific suggestions and advice. Examples of sexuality counselors are Planned Parenthood counselors, nurses and other health professionals, school counselors, and clinical pastoral care and counseling providers. Sexuality counseling is generally short term and client-centered, focusing on the immediate concern or problem. Minimum degree required is a Bachelor’s degree.
